Experimentally Sneaking

Glass shoe with tan uppers, black eyelets, yellow laces and red and white rubber
Experimentally Sneaking, 2025 -- 3.5 x 4 x 10 inches

This shoe kicked off 2025 as my experiments shoe. The sole and upper were created in the usual way, but then I toyed around with a technique by Karen Lise Krabbe out of Denmark called Gelled Glass. I was hopeful this technique would work for creating insoles. It did not, but that doesn’t mean I won’t revisit it in the future.

You can learn more about Gelled Glass on YouTube.

I also used this shoe to practice drilling holes – I was able to drill the insides of the grommets to add more visual texture.

And the final experiment was using vitreous glass enamel to highlight areas before the final firing. This was also a huge success – the grommets, laces and rubber were all enameled using this new method.
