First Shoe

Glass child loafer with blue sock

This is the first shoe I cast, in 2021. I thought that creating a child’s shoe would be easier than a bigger shoe and picked up this loafer at the thrift store. To support the shoe and be able to pour the plaster over rather than in, I created an ankle. I thought blue would make a nice sock, only I filled it solid with glass. After casting it definitely didn’t have sock appeal. It sat on my workbench and staring at the blue nub of an ankle, I finally decided to slice the top of it off so it didn’t look so creepy. I have been considering cutting the sock off altogether, but there is something about preserving the first piece in a series as it was intended.
